Familiar with many instruments and musical styles, Mike Brun is a musical chameleon. His influences span many genres: from Radiohead’s artistic and intellectual rock, to the smooth, neo-soul of D’Angelo, to the dreamlike sounds of French impressionist composer Debussy, influences like these have permeated Brun’s short but prolific writing career and show through his sense of harmony and control of atmosphere.
Brun is also involved in various musical endeavors, including an a cappella group at his school Tulane University and a band out of New Orleans, for which he plays bass, called The Revivalists. He has also been studying trumpet under the principal trumpet player for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Vance Woolf.
Brun uses his various influences and other projects to produce a unique sense of musical composition. Under New Division Records, Brun hopes to forward his career as a songwriter: he has already released an album entitled OFF with the label and intends to record much more in the near future, exploring various musical arrangements and styles. |
